The snow leopard, known as the “ghost of the mountains,” is a stunningly beautiful and elusive predator that inhabits the high-altitude regions of Central Asia. While snow leopards are not typically found in wetlands, their territories often overlap with riverine ecosystems that connect to wetlands at lower altitudes.
These big cats rely on their thick fur and powerful limbs to navigate harsh mountainous terrain. Their primary prey includes mountain sheep and goats, but they occasionally venture to lower altitudes to hunt deer and wild boars. Snow leopards are solitary and elusive, often unseen by human eyes.
Climate change and habitat destruction threaten the survival of snow leopards. Conservation programs focus on protecting their habitats and ensuring coexistence with local communities through education and eco-tourism initiatives.
